How to Use Banner Ads Effectively

Banner ads are online advertisements that are virtual signs used to promote your website. These banners are usually placed on other websites and use both images and text to attract attention, encouraging guests to click the ad and visit your site as well.

Banner ads were originally long, banner-like advertisements that appeared at the top of websites and stretched across the entire page. This style of banner ad is still quite common, but these ads can now be found in a number of sizes and many different shapes.

The use of banner ads can be extremely beneficial to your marketing efforts, but only when they are used the right way. Here, we will examine the most effective ways to market your business with banner ads.

The placement of your banner ad is a leading factor in determining its success. Instead of placing your ads wherever you can, without considering how the location could benefit your business, you should put forth the effort to find ideal places to display your ads. Poor placement of banner ads is simply a waste of your time and money.

The best place to put your banner ad is on a website that is related to your product or service, or at least attracts the same clientele. Websites with high traffic volumes offer more potential and you want to avoid placing your ads on websites that offer similar products or services.

For instance, if you sell athletic footwear, an ideal website to host your banner ad would be a site that caters to runners, providing information on races and tips for training.

This type of website would not offer shoes on their website, but the visitors would have an interest in purchasing running shoes. The key is to find a website with a similar customer base that does not offer the same products.

Banner ad exchanges is an affordable alternative to purchasing online ad space. These groups exchange ad space. Rather than pay another website to host your banner ad, you agree to host banner ads on your site as well.

This is a great marketing option for those looking for more exposure without spending any money, but banner ad exchanges are not the most beneficial method.

While most of these programs do leave members the option to decline hosting banners they feel are inappropriate, there is little control over what banners will appear on your website and there is just as little control over where your own ad will appear.

The appearance of your banner ad is just as important as its location. Try a variety of banner designs and place the different styles on different websites. You can keep track of the designs that have the most success by carefully monitoring your traffic and sales.

If you a notice a banner doing particularly well, you may consider using it more frequently. Banner ads that are not as successful may need to be improved or even replaced.
